Spring (Vernal/vernus) Equinox

If you study “Moorish Science” you quite likely know the significance of the spring equinox and its corresponding time of year. Spring is the beginning of nature’s cycle of renewal, rebirth, beginnings and growth. Old folks used to say: “the sap is rising” this time of year.

In world religion, history and/or other ideologies, it may also signify the rise of saviors, heroes or the advent of a new agricultural season for cultivation and planting as well as planning events, and cleaning, as well as survival.

In Astrology, March 19th, 2024 is recognized as the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. It’s one of the two times the earth’s axis is not tilted toward or away from the sun. This results in a period of equal day and night at most all latitudes. The other time this occurrence happens is during the Autumnal or fall equinox.

This is the demarcation of the end of summer and the precession of all earthly inhabitants’ journey through the fixed stars. The Earth spins on her axis around the sun as it makes its annual orbit (diurnal motion) creating a celestial plane/path called the ecliptic. During the orbital rotation, the sun moves just short of 1 degree eastward each day per year in relation to the stars.

This linear path across the sky as viewed from Earth is called the Zodiac. The Zodiac is a pictorial collection of stars called constellations, aka fixed stars in our solar system. Through maps and cartography and the charting or plotting of paths, intrepid travelers were able to navigate the planet utilizing longitude and latitude with some precision along with determining the ecliptic and celestial equator. These skills and tools such as lodestones or magnetic compasses; cross-staffs or back-staff, traverse boards, astrolabes and quadrants, some of which were early iterations of the square help to ensure a safe journey baring weather and other conditions or circumstances. “Call me Ishmael”, (from Moby Dick, lol.

As the earth spins on her axis, she causes a motion like a wobble. The gradual movement of the sun in relation to the fixed stars revealed that certain fixed stars like Castor were transiting from one sign or segment of the so called heavens to another. Precession also indicates a change in the orientation of the rotational axis of a celestial body. This is relevant regarding geographical and meteorological conditions as well. This axis or imaginary pole dissects the globe, determining the farthest point north and south with lines of longitude meeting at each end.

When folks speak of poles shifting, they are referring to the position of the axis whether north or south. The direction could be general, due, true or magnetic depending on destination and navigation tools. It could be likened to your navel shifting to another area in your abdomen. Such a subtle motion would happen so slowly, that it would be imperceptible without protracted study and observation over time. Such changes could account in part for the evolution of species or natural selection.
