The Wisdom and Insights of R. Marcus Bey

By Ramah El

In every great society/culture, people of wisdom, knowledge, and vision leave their mark on history so that generations to come will benefit from what they left behind. In my humble opinion, these souls are heaven-sent, by our creator, to uplift, not just the culture in which they appear, but all of humanity. Again, their words, their deeds, their spirituality, and universal insights make their mark.

In recent Moorish history our Prophet, Noble Drew Ali, stands above all others as a soul, heaven-sent, to resurrect the Moorish National Government, which suffered its karmic decline due to sinful acts perpetrated on the less fortunate newcomers of civilized humanity. The Prophet’s mission also included the establishment of the divine principles of, Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice, in this new age of Aquarius.

Then, about twenty years after the prophet finished his work, another soul made his appearance on the scene to inject another round of energy into the Moorish movement. That soul was none other than Charles Mosley Bey, better known as. C.M. Bey. His contribution to the culture was added inspirational history, science of the zodiac, and Law.

At this time, I would like to present to you the subject of this writing, about another soul who contributed to the Moorish movement in a significant professorial way, but almost in obscurity. This soul was also able to seamlessly make the connection between the work of the Prophet and the work of C.M. Bey. The soul that I speak of currently is the inimitable R. Marcus-Bey.

Who was/is R. Marcus-Bey?

Born Robert Arnold Marcus, on March 22nd, 1933, in Cleveland Ohio. Joined the Moorish Science Temple of America at the youthful age of 18 and some years later in 1973, he, along with his wife Rosemary, received a charter to open Temple #70 in association with Temple #7, Cleveland, Ohio. He operated the Temple in his home and therefore kept a small circle of members and selected students around him, who referred to him as Brother Bey.

During R. Marcus-Bey’s journey as a member of the Moorish Science Temple of America, He met and became a student of C.M.-Bey, Joining The Clock Of Destiny in May of 1968. Because of the influence of C.M. Bey, he became very proficient in astrology and Moorish history. However, R. Marcus-Bey was a very talented individual in his own right. In high school, he learned to play the saxophone and became a very talented musician, who wrote and played for Motown and backed up artists like Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5, and more, using his stage name, Bobby Marcus. In the early 1970’s, every Monday he traveled to Detroit Michigan to study with the head of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra where he learned the Schillinger system of musical composition, developed by Russian musical composer and theorist, Joseph Schillinger. Schillinger’s compositions were based on mathematics, rhythm, harmony,  melody, counterpoint, form, and semantics.

Over the years many of his students have taken copious pages of notes of his lectures; and because of their efforts, the Moorish Circle Education Center has been able to gather those notes and present them for all to sample his contribution to the Moorish Movement.  Upon reading these notes,  you will see how masterfully Brother Bey, was able to connect the dots.

In a series of blogs, we will publish those notes on his lectures and occasionally write commentary and show references in support of his conclusions. Judge for yourself, if you will, how significant his insights and knowledge will impact your life.

Please tell others to subscribe so they will not miss the coming series on our dear and beloved, R. Marcus-Bey

Peace!

Spring (Vernal/vernus) Equinox

If you study “Moorish Science” you quite likely know the significance of the so called spring equinox and its corresponding time of year. Spring is the beginning of nature’s cycle of renewal, rebirth, beginnings and growth. Old folks used to say: “the sap is rising” this time of year.

In world religion, history and/or other ideologies, it may also signify the rise of saviors, heroes or the advent of a new agricultural season for planning, sowing, cultivation and planting, as well as survival.

In Astrology, March 19th, 2024 is recognized as the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. It’s one of the two times the earth’s axis is not tilted toward or away from the sun. This results in a period of equal day and night at most all latitudes. The other time this occurrence happens is during the Autumnal or fall equinox.

This is the demarcation of the end of summer and the precession of all earthly inhabitants’ journey through the fixed stars. The Earth spins on her axis around the sun as it makes its annual orbit (diurnal motion) creating a celestial plane/path called the ecliptic. During the orbital rotation, the sun moves just short of 1 degree eastward each day per year in relation to the stars.

This linear path across the sky as viewed from Earth is called the Zodiac. The Zodiac is a pictorial collection of stars called constellations, aka fixed stars in our solar system. Through maps and cartography and the charting or plotting of paths, intrepid travelers were able to navigate the planet utilizing longitude and latitude with some precision along with determining the ecliptic and celestial equator. These skills and tools such as lodestones or magnetic compasses; cross-staffs or back-staff, traverse boards, astrolabes and quadrants, some of which were early iterations of the square help to ensure a safe journey baring weather and other conditions or circumstances. “Call me Ishmael”, (from Moby Dick, lol.

As the earth spins on her axis, she causes a motion like a wobble. The gradual movement of the sun in relation to the fixed stars revealed that certain fixed stars like Castor were transiting from one sign or segment of the so called heavens to another. Precession also indicates a change in the orientation of the rotational axis of a celestial body. This is relevant regarding geographical and meteorological conditions as well. This axis or imaginary pole dissects the globe, determining the farthest point north and south with lines of longitude meeting at each end.

When folks speak of poles shifting, they are referring to the position of the axis whether north or south. The direction could be general, due, true or magnetic depending on destination and navigation tools. It could be likened to your navel shifting to another area in your abdomen. Such a subtle motion would happen so slowly, that it would be imperceptible without protracted study and observation over time. Such changes could account in part for the evolution of species or natural selection.

“That is why astrology is called the “Clock of Destiny”. It’s a great way to study self. Check out the Lessons, courtesy of the Moorish Circle of Mothers and Suns (pun intended.) Learn the houses, study the fixed stars and numerology. The 52 pieces of tools are required for right and exact navigation and character building is a must!

This is significant, and indicates an old soul come again to raise the consciousness of her people. To see her face and look into her eyes, is to see the wisdom that shines through.

We, in the Moorish Nation, must seek out our most talented brothers and sisters who have no agenda other than the progress of all who seek knowledge and wisdom, who have a selfless approach to teaching and loving their students without looking for anything in return but to bring out the light within them.
